(robin ) police released a francisco park last week. the assualt happened around 6:45 in the morning on january 8th. police responded to a home on the 1000- block of visitacion avenue. the suspect was seen leaving the home, then walking eastbound down the street. the grandmother who was beaten is still in the hospital with life- threatening injuries. (robin ) in the east bay, teachers and staff at several schools in oakland are reportedly preparing for a one day "sick out" on friday. the teachers say, they are frustrated by low pay and underfunded classrooms. kron 4's charles clifford has more. in what's being called a "sick out" teachers and staff from skyline high school say

they will stage a one day strike on friday. donna salonga is a teacher at skyline, she says the staff is protesting what they believe are low wages and underfunded classrooms.sotthe pay that teachers are recieving is not to living wages, especially here in the bay area. oakland district in the county. also, it's for funding for education. the strike, if it happens, would not be supported by the oakland education association, which normally negotiates union contracts with the school district.on tuesday, oakland unified school district superintendent kyla johnson-trammell said the district is opposed to a one day strike. "we urge them not to engage in this illegal labor action which is not sanctioned by their union." but, the superintendant did acknowledged the teacher's concerns saying"we want our teachers to know that everyone on the board of education and in district leadership firmly believe that they deserve to be paid more than they currently are. we are hopeful that our teachers will remain in class supporting students on friday." the district also says that if there is a strike on friday, classes at the

impacted schools will be held as planned.salonga says that in addition to staff from skyline high, they also expecting teachers from other schools including oakland high, west oakland middle school, and fremont high to join the one day strike. the plan for is to rally outside oakland technical high school on friday morning and the march to the school district offices for a second rally. salonga says she hopes this one day of action will be enough.soti don't think anyone wants to go on a strike, but we will. sotit's for our students.in oakland, charles clifford kron 4 news. ( robin ) new this morning... two people are in critical condition after an overnight fire in san francisco. 4 others were injured including a firefighter. kron 4's sara stinson is live at the scene with the latest. sara. a firefighter was among the injured in wednesday's early-morning, two-alarm blaze at two homes in san francisco, according to fire officials. the firefighter suffered an injury to their face battling the blaze at 70 and 72 liebig st., and was transported to

the hospital with minor injuries and for observation, according to san francisco fire department lt. jonathan baxter. five others were transported to hospitals, also, including one child who suffered minor injuries. two adults are currently in critical condition and two others suffered serious-to- moderate injuries, baxter said. the firefighter wasn't identified. the blaze was first reported around 12:18 a.m. at 70 liebig st., and then spread to the home next door at 72 liebig st., baxter said. the homes are detached, 2-story, single-family homes. firefighters arrived on scene and found fire extending from the building and people requesting rescues from the second-floor and other locations of the homes, baxter said. a total of 23 fire apparatuses and 72 firefighters battled the blaze. the fire was placed under control around 1:45 a.m. the american red cross is on the scene to assist 17 people who were displaced. the cause of the fire is under investigation. no further information is immediately available.

(robin ) here in the bay area -- parents in san rafael are continue to fight to change the name of the city's 'dixie' school district. it was named after the confederacy during the he peiti wrapped in ribbons and they called for a mandatory vote by the district school board on the name change. the district's board of trustees is required to vote on the issue within 40 days.

(robin ) some of the proposed new names for the district include big rock, john muir, live oak, live oak valley. the school district was founded in 1864 and it serves the communities of terra linda, marinwood, lucas valley and a portion of contempo marin. (robin ) racism is facing some push back in the nation's capital. calls are growing for iowa congressman steve king to resign after he made racist comments in a report by the new york times. andy rose has the latest. rep. steve king (r) iowa: "it's 13 words ironically that's caused this firestorm. and again i regret that we are in this place."republican steve king won't be serving on any committees this congress..

friends are starting to fear the worst, after a teenager fell into a blowhole near big sur. 18-year-old braxton stuntz tumbled into the water between two rocks at garrapata state park saturday. friends and witnesses searched for stuntz after he fell off the rocky edge. rescuers got there only to find his friends had lost sight of him. the coast guard continued its search until sundown on sunday, but did not find him. the sheriff's office announcing ... the search has now shifted from rescue to recovery mode. the woman who called first responders says, she believes more could have been done to save stuntz's life. another witness says, friends saw that stuntz was alive after his initial 15-foot tumble. but they lost sight of him after
